2008

In November, Bangladesh had a tour gone to South Africa. They lost all their match, in the only T20 match, 2–0 in the ODI sequence (with the third one being wash out due to rain) and 2–0 in the Test sequence. The final was one which managed to go downward as one of the most amusing matches ever in ODI cricket history. Sri Lanka bundle out the hosts for a meager 151 and were preparing for a simple win, only to be astonished by some deadly bowling performance from Mashrafe Mortaza and Nazmul Hossain which saw the Lankans to be abridged to a shocking 6/5, which was the lowly total for a team to lose five wickets at. Then Kumar Sangakkara appear to take the game away from the hosts, but Shakib Al Hasan struck with two quick wickets plummeting the Lankans to 114/8. And then just when the Bangladeshis were getting the sniff of their first main ODI series win, an unlikely and equally enthralling hitting display from the Sri Lankan famous offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan quick the victory away from the tearful hosts. Shakib Al Hasan was announced as the man of the tournament, which hardly consolated the Bangladesh team which perform out of their skin only to let it slip at the finish.
After the World T20 championship in England, the selectors chosen Mashrafe Mortaza as the new captain of the team for the tour to the West Indies so that Ashraful could focus on his bat. This was the first example of Bangladesh winning a series next to a full powered top examination side. In the final game, Bangladesh continued their winning race thrashing New Zealand by 3 runs and winning the series by 4- 0. This remarkable achievement by the Tigers unbreakable the idea that they are now in a transition era to become a superpower of cricket world. Bangladesh will play next series with Zimbabwe in December.
